Community Mediation Maryland’s vision is for every Maryland citizen to have awareness of and access to an affordable, high quality community mediation service. CMM advances community mediation in Maryland through educating the public, training, networking, research and creating new centers.
What is Community Mediation Anyway?
Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process in which neutral mediators help people find a win-win solution to their conflict. Mediation lets people speak for themselves and make their own decisions. Community Mediation Maryland( CMM) is the hub for a net work of 18 mediation centers located throughout Maryland. Centers are in urban, suburban and rural locations.
The AmeriCorps program managed by CMM provides public education about Non-Violent Conflict Resolution, recruits and coordinates volunteers to serve as Mediators and to conduct the public education, and develops partnerships with agencies and grassroots organizations to promote the use of Community Mediation throughout the state of Maryland. Approximately 10 centers participate as service sites for AmeriCorps Members each year. CMM was awarded 13 AmeriCorps positions for 2009-2010. Currently we have a waiting list for all stipend positions. Part-time Education Award only positions are still available. Individuals who are self motivated, committed to grassroots community change, and willing to learn are encouraged to apply.
